Not All Airbnb Are Alike

I’d like to address the comments in the Angry Poodle concerning Airbnb and the homes in Santa Barbara, like my own, that were lumped together as “vacation rental units.” Such blanket statements can be problematic and generate misunderstandings in the minds of those less informed.

Having been in the business of hosting travelers for over 12 years, in my personal home, it never was a consideration to make my home available on the “rental market,” nor was my home ever part of the vacation rental “pool.”

Guests are invited to stay here, they’re invited to join in for a simple breakfast and coffee, and occasionally they’re invited to join us for a BBQ or even to celebrate holidays like Thanksgiving.

It is the home where my daughters grew up, it is the home where friends and family gather, it is a home alongside wonderful neighbors. And it serves as a bridge between us and those who respectfully come to enjoy Santa Barbara. It is a home that promotes good will, understanding, and respect for others, and more than ever, those attitudes are incredibly important.
