Three pedestrians were killed this weekend in separate collisions with passenger-carrying Amtrak trains traveling through San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday, 60-year-old Norman Horion — a former Kansas City resident, homeless at the time of his death — was killed by an Amtrak train near Summerland’s Lookout Park.
On Saturday night, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student Aaron Matthew Wolf — reportedly 19 — was struck and killed on the tracks in rural San Luis Obispo. Wolf’s death is being investigated by the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department. At around 9:13 a.m. on Sunday, 19-year-old UCSB second-year and pre-psychology student Lillian T. Feng, of Davis, was similarly killed on the tracks below the Glen Annie and Storke Road overpass in Goleta.
Toxicology reports for the three deaths will be complete in 4-6 weeks, but the Sheriff’s Office is calling Feng’s death an apparent suicide due to witness statements immediately before her death. Horion’s death is also being investigated pending the toxicology report.
