Santa Barbara County residents are fortunate to have a supervisorial candidate as well qualified as Joan Hartmann. As a former planning commissioner for the district, I know the challenges that face county government and the importance of having a knowledgeable supervisor who is a team player.

Joan has many years of public policy experience and has worked with government at many different levels to improve the lives of citizens. She knows the necessity of coordinating county efforts with the resources of state and federal agencies to achieve important goals. She has been a strong advocate for government working creatively with the private and nonprofit sectors.

Joan believes that local citizens should be empowered to make important decisions that affect their quality of life. She was an early supporter of the Buellton Urban Growth Boundary initiative that requires a vote of the people for significant expansion of the city’s boundaries.

Joan recognizes the need for a healthy economy supported by necessary infrastructure and the importance of sustainable agriculture for the future of our county. She advocates a balanced approach to government and as chairman of the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission she made a point of listening to all sides and supporting well-informed practical solutions to complex problems.

Although Joan is a resident of the Santa Ynez Valley, her work on the County Planning Commission and her involvement with many community organizations makes her knowledgeable about the entire county and the different issues that concern residents.

When 3rd District residents vote for Joan Hartmann on June 7, they will know that her expertise, experience, and record will make her the best county supervisor we could have.
