Many thanks to Nick Welsh for his article, “Drought Watch: Blob Pummels Godzilla.” I’m kind of shocked that we don’t seem to be taking our plight more seriously. It seems when I was living in Palo Alto during a less substantial 1970s drought, we were requested, sometimes forced, to take more stringent measures than are now in effect here. I also know that Australians have done much more than us to deal with their prolonged drought.

Perhaps many assume that this drought like all others will end. It sounds more probable in my view that climate change effects will result in significantly lower local rainfall levels for a long time to come. I know some measures are in the works, but maybe we could move faster and less timidly to conserve water and get more.
