‘Doggerel to Verse’ Made Me Curse

Your headline “Doggerel to Verse”

For last week’s Poodle made me curse!

There’s not an ounce of “Doggerel” in it,

Or “Verse,” no matter how you spin it.

Somebody didn’t use their noodle.

Usually the Angry Poodle

Gets headlined with a touch of wit

(The column simply brims with it).

This time: No Verse. No Doggerel rhymes.

The best of times — the worst of times.

P.S. The lines above offer a textbook example of Doggerel — monotonously regular meter, simple-minded sentences, and blaringly obvious, dumb rhymes, and a last line that’s there for the rhyme and doesn’t even make sense.
