Rise (from the dead) and shine at the Goodland Hotel this Sunday, October 9, when the spirits of divas past come to life in the form of glamorous performers alongside a scrumptious brunch buffet and cocktails that can revive any corpse. Just in time for the fanciful dress of Halloween, S.B.’s beloved transgender performer Deja Re will host a special Drag Yourself to Brunch: Drop Dead Divas edition, featuring the ever-fab music master DJ Darla Bea, plus scarily good food by Outpost chef Nick Bajal and frightfully tasty cocktails by lead bartender Chris Burmeister. With a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Pacific Pride Foundation, you can also rest in peace knowing that the fun event will be a truly supportive one for the LGBTQ+ community and all allies.

For newcomers and veterans alike, this installation of the Goodland’s Drag Yourself to Brunch will be a great time, says Re. Guests “can expect to be dazzled with entertainment — for those two hours people forget about their problems and issues and are strictly entertained,” she said.

The event will be a variety show that includes a mix of singing, dancing, and spoken word from a handful of lovely entertainers, some of whom identify as transgender and others as drag queens. The performers will celebrate the spirits of empowering female singers living and dead, from Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, and Judy Garland to Dolly Parton, Madonna, and Stevie Nicks, said DJ Darla Bea, who helped conceive the concept. The event will bring back to life the memory of “strong ladies who inspire and continue to inspire and women who have embraced the LGBTQ community or furthered LGBTQ culture,” Bea said.

A costume contest and silent auction round out the festivities, meaning this trick-or-treat-timed dine will treat many through supporting Pacific Pride Foundation. “There’s a lot that you can do and give to the community by going to this one brunch, and, most importantly, you’re going to be entertained and hopped up on mimosas,” Re said.

Drag Yourself to Brunch: Drop Dead Divas is at the Goodland Hotel (5650 Calle Real, Goleta) on Sunday, October 9. See tinyurl.com/DragYourselfToBrunch2016.
