We have a lot going on in the local real estate sphere right now. Big news last week was the possibility of Paseo Nuevo being transformed into housing. Nick Welsh stayed up late Tuesday night to give us this report. Whether or not you remember when Paseo Nuevo was built — Piccadilly Square, anyone? — everyone will agree that this is a major opportunity for Santa Barbara. We know we’ll be hearing more about this in the months to come.

Right down the street, the somewhat dismal undercrossing from State Street to the beach will soon be getting an overhaul. Jeff Shelton Architects’ involvement guarantees a colorful and creative treatment. They revealed their renderings for the project, which is planned to begin construction next month. The image above is by Harrison Smith from Bengal Engineering. Find details on Jeff’s blog here, along with lots of fun drawings and details.

We also have ArchitecTours coming up next weekend. On Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., the public is invited to tour eight different homes and projects as varied as the ocean-view hillside ranch-style home shown above, a locals’ favorite Funk Zone spot, and two different multi-unit housing projects including Johnson Court, which I wrote about last week. Visit aiasb.com to learn more.

In addition, this is Fall Harvest Full Moon Week. Yes, the full moon was Friday, but since it’s the last supermoon of the year, it feels right to keep celebrating all week. The Tao of Dana blog says that this full moon leading into solar eclipse is the perfect season to make big changes. Around the house, that can mean many things. She suggests deep-cleaning a specific space as a catalyst to take action. Her examples:

—Deep-clean your office/workspace to give your work a fresh start.

—Deep-clean your kitchen to bring a fresh start to your new nutrition plans.

—Deep-clean your bathroom to supercharge your self-care and confidence.

—Deep-clean your bedroom to revitalize your sleep, magnetism, and the romance in your life.

Remember, you can clean with music, while talking to a friend, catching up on podcasts, or more. Make it a party!

In another type of cleaning, Santa Barbara Association of Realtors (SBAOR) members volunteered again this week with Habitat for Humanity in their “Brush With Kindness” program, helping a family on the Westside. SBAOR President Todd Shea gives a description of the work that was done and a shout-out to the volunteers in this on-the-scene video. Hooray for giving back!
