IT’S GOOD FOR YOU: For more than a decade, Isabelle T. Walker, currently a California Endowment Health Journalism Fellow, has had her finger on the pulse of medical issues affecting Santa Barbarans young and old, rich and poor, insured and uninsured. As The Independent’s health reporter, Walker has unflinchingly and indeed avidly pored over dry policy proposals, quizzed bureaucrats, and visited the sick. Her feature in this week’s issue, “Senior Living Conflicts” (click here for the story), is part love story, part journey into the world of a nursing home not unlike those awaiting many of us, our parents, and grandparents – and that’s if we’re lucky.
