    Where: 3627 State St., 805-697-1616, teeoffsb.com

What: Old school neighborhood steakhouse and bar (established 1956)

How much? Appetizers from $5-$17; Club Menu from $10-$19; Entrées from $15-$40. Martinis (all double) $9.95. 10-18 yr Single Malt Scotch varied prices.

The dish: The Tee-Off is not just for golfers, but definitely not for vegetarians. It is a prime rib paradise with a dimly lit, boisterous yet intimate clubby ambiance. Photos of various golf courses and actual clubs adorn the walls. The staff is welcoming and friendly, generally knowing the customers’ names and their usuals, as the clientele tends to return. Some to partake of tender, moist, juicy cuts of meat served up along with panko encrusted onion rings with homemade ketchup. Others come for drinks reportedly able to make memories of a bad day at the links or the office disappear. Think a ’50s Cheers catering to a carnivorous crowd. The portions are large, whether you order up the steaks, chops, seafood, chicken, or even dessert. Dinners include a soup and salad, choice of rice or potato, and fresh baked sourdough rolls. Every Wednesday is “All You Can Eat BBQ Ribs” for $11.95, but only until the ribs are gone. And they do go quickly.
