MUSIC MAN: It’s not often Independent intern Sam Rolens finds himself doing much besides writing. Whether at The Indy or working on his latest musical, Rolens always has a pen nearby. Hailing from Santa Cruz and prone to plaid, Rolens, 23, recently graduated from UCSB. He has written three original musicals staged by the school and finds himself in the middle of writing another. “I like the idea of finding stories to tell,” said Rolens, who also tends the El Paseo bar four days a week. Rolens’s stories appear regularly online-follow him at he made his print debut last week.
