In this year's intensely followed city elections the moderate Democratic majority that's dominated City Hall for the past 25 years faced an unprecedented foe in the form of Texas billionaire and part-time Santa Barbara resident Randall van Wolfswinkel, who shelled out $800,000 to back conservative-minded candidates. While the moderate Democratic power bloc survived - namely, Councilmember Grant House, Mayor-Elect Helene Schneider, and Councilmember-Elect Harwood "Bendy" White (top, from left) - serious damage was sustained.
