Gee, sbsleuth, I'm having trouble understanding. Do economic, budget, and crime problems not register on your radar of important issues? Or do you just want anyone who doesn't share your political views to leave Santa Barbara? I guess we should all hail you as a true Democrat (note the capital, not small, d - small d democrats value differences of opinion and are willing to debate issues instead of hurling insults). Have a nice day.

I'd like to see a candidate with no party affiliation, no allegiance to the SEIU, a truly rational centrist worldview, some experience living somewhere closer to the real world than SB, and a pledge to work the rapidly growing economic, budget, and crime problems.

Good Lord, what a dysfunctional state. Better we should still have a continued financial crisis than finally a budget that is at least something of a compromise? Maldonado should be considered a pillar of reason among a mob of idealistic do-nothings. The concessions he got from the Dems will benefit California in the long run.

Holly's "thinking" is an example of so much of what's wrong with the political process today - substitute unfounded opinion for fact and then expect the challenger who expects a factual argument to disprove the opinion. sbgal is dead on. I suspect that no one begrudges the truly disadvantaged (mentally ill, etc.) but some of the behaviors we've been seeing recently from apparently the voluntarily homeless (spitting on people, etc.) are just totally unacceptable. And, Georgy, making SB more attractive to the homeless WILL attract more homeless people - just get the FACTS on what happened in Santa Monica a few years back. There are those who help, one person at a time, with their own funds, instead of expecting government (who rarely get anything right when it comes to the details) to solve the problem with someone else's money.

For an interesting view of the "round 'em up" approach, watch "Escape from New York" or "Escape from L.A." starring Kurt Russell.

As of yesterday 2PM the whale was still there. As were a half dozen kayakers following it around, too closely, like a swarm of kids chasing a soccer ball.

Great. Politicize the selection/dismissal of department heads. Just what the county needs - less accountability by county employees.

Hopefully none of this crowd will make it to Sacramento - last thing the Bankrupt State of California needs is more big spenders in state gov.

I must be oversimplifying this, but wouldn't a bike lane, a traffic light and crosswalk at the existing intersection solve the problem?
