I don' think the 'people' are conflicted...I think they know that there are way less important things to cut, but the politicians put the kids (and the future of the country) on the chopping block first. It's like the Taliban building their bunkers in schools and say "how can you hurt the children"?

Democrats and Republican politicians all want the same and power...the DC Machine. Our Forefathers saw it coming and tried to limit it with the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The government is now way more than anything described therein, and the citizens are losing their liberty and freedom.

Get back to the Constitution and most of this Nation's problems will get worked out...sorry lazy leaches, you may need to motivate.

Remember when Character used to be important. It really seems to be an impediment to success these days. Would it be that bad to start teaching about character in schools again, instead of tolerance and environmentalism? Wouldn't the character topic cover those other ones?

I think the City should create a "Big Buddy" program and team up salaried city employees (or hire new ones) with each urban camper to make sure they feel welcome and loved. We can take money from the school budget to pay for it. Then make our loved scruffy sojourners promise to stay off State Street during our tourist seasons so no outsiders will see that our homeless problem is out of control (like feeding pigeons.) Why does Dale need to be there to come up with that idea? The two sitting at the table should have been able to come up with it.

Sounds like the students, the parents, and the community were not represented at the negotiations...what a sham! I can't believe that there is no place to cut the bloated gevernment except the amount of hours the kids are instructed.

SezMe, you give me faith that the public at large is still curious and discerning. Thanks for the heads up on the revolving link. In case you couldn't find the article, here is another shot at a link:

EZK, I less hope for your unwillingness to open your mind. Keep drinking the Independent Kool-aid and refrain from critical thought...just like what we learned in school "Keep It Simple Stupid." Just label is a great substitute for thought.

I happened to sit in on the hearing, call it civic curiosity (two community power houses going head to head), and heard the jury's unanimous rejection of everyone of Hughes' accusations and its 11-1 vote to award on all 15 counts of Hughe's fraud, breach of contract, etc... These facts are the essence of the story. It appears that by omitting those facts, the Independent wants to paint its own story. This may be great for a gaggle of groupies, but it is not journalism.

These politicians need to cut their spending before they go back to the well for more money. "The easiest dollar spent is the un-earned dollar." It's ironic and tragic that the politicians are positioned to capitalize on spending more money on the unions, because they attract more campaign money and subsequent power from them. They can't cut the union's packages and influence because their campaign money and power would be jeopardized. These unions are bankrupting this state and nation and own the politicians

Here is a news flash...Unions are a Special Interest, the largest most organized Special Interest around and all the tax payers are forced to pay them.
