Mr. Armstrong has not been a friend to public safety over the last 13 years. The systematic cuts in both pay and benefits have hurt SB police and firefighters and their families. SB has consequently lost quality veterans, new hires alike. The Police Dept. has suffered the most it seems. Their building is falling apart and has been deemed unsafe. Their police cars look old and beat up. I'm told the morale is low just like their staffing. Hopefully things will improve with new leadership.

On City Exec Jim Armstrong to Retire

Loonpt.... Your idiotic comments usually have me shaking my head and wondering what the future of our society might look like if there are more out there like you....but today's comments caused me to respond. So the police are to blame for the young ladies death last year? SHE got drunk, SHE went on the other side of the fence designed to keep people away from the edge of the cliffs, SHE (as you suggest) may have been looking for a place to urinate in public..... And the cops are to blame? Wow! Last time I checked, all of the things you mentioned are illegal. How about personal responsibility.... Don't break the law and make better choices. It's truly tragic that she paid for her choices with her life... But it's certainly not the cops' fault.

What planet are you on loonpt?? You need to get your facts straight in a hurry before you "philosophically" advocate killing a cop who was arresting someone for smoking pot.... In California, it's a non-bookable infraction to smoke/possess marijuana without a medical recommendation. Which means you could get a warning or a ticket just like running a stop sign. Get back on your meds bro! Let the grown ups do the heavy lifting for a while....Geez!

On Police Officer Fatally Shoots Man With Knife

Oh Beachgirl77...... If only you knew how ignorant you sound. The sad part is how insensitive you are. This officer did what he was trained to do and went home safe to his family. He possibly saved other innocent lives as well....and now because of this, he will have nightmares and be forever changed by this horrible experience. Shame on you for not showing any respect for the lives affected by this situation that he didn't ask for.

I feel sorry for all of the quality people that work or used to work at the NP that Steepleton, Kadich and McCaw have hurt. The Santa Barbara community deserves so much better than what they get from the NP. It's too bad that people continue to buy, read, advertise in or line their birdcages with this paper. McCaw should sell the NP - it's the only way to restore this once-proud paper to it's former glory.

The Montecito Motors guys got more prison time than this animal....what's wrong with our system when a violent monster gets less time than a white collar criminal?

Thank God for Officer Aaron Tudor.... And thank God that people didn't believe all of the crap that Darryl Genis and the NewsPress said about him. I'm glad Officer Tudor is still out there protecting us

On Routine Traffic Stop Yields 18 Stolen Guns

With all due respect, this is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. Santa Barbara has become a destination city for the homeless. We have more than enough shelters and services for the homeless that seek help. You will never end homelessness for the segment that chooses not to work and won't make any effort to better their condition. There will always be those who would rather let you find ways to feed and shelter them. I have been in SB since 1968 and have to say that the homeless have nearly ruined this city with their urinating, defecating, litter and filth all over the sidewalks and in the bushes. Wake up you bleeding hearts, the reasons that people are homeless are so complex and will not be fixed by building yet another shelter.

GYoung - you are missing the point. Who I am is not as important as the points I am trying to make here. You and/or JohnLocke didn't answer the question I posed. When someone like Lance makes repeated allegations that they can't back up with REAL proof - it doesn't warrant an investigation into someone just because he said it 100 times or manufactured his own "proof."
Would it make you feel better if I told you that I am GWilliams?

JohnLocke -

Mockery of justice? Kinda like not investigating Beutel in spite of the many indications of her guilt?

Aside from the numerous claims and accusations made by Genis and Lance, what indications of guilt are you referring to?
As I recall, the things that Genis actually tried to prove in court didn't hold up very well. So what is it that Beutel is supposed to be guilty of again? Remember, stick to actual things you can prove....
