Two corrupt Santa Barbara telemarketers, Stevan Todorovic and
Michael Harvey, were charged with operating telemarketing scams and
issued lifetime bans by the Federal Trade Commission. Harvey and
Todorovic operated out of offices at 25 West Anapamu Street under
the shingles American Bartending Institute and Intuitive Logic. The
FTC charged the two with selling lists of bartending job openings
to “certified” individuals who first paid fees up to $98 to
complete the at-home certification process. The FTC cried foul
because the lists were available to the customers elsewhere, free
of charge. Todorovic ran into trouble with the FTC in the past
regarding a similar business that sold auction house lists, also
available for free elsewhere. Todorovic, from Santa Ynez, was
ordered to surrender his Porsche convertible and pay $115,000 in
fines. According to the FTC, failure to comply with the terms of
their sentences would result in both men being liable for $6
million in suspended fines. Efforts to contact Harvey or Todorovic
for comment proved fruitless.
