The City Council approved a $500,000 bridge loan to help the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) purchase Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens. The SBTHP plans to preserve the property with an Asian-American museum and eventually plans to sell the site to the state. The board wasn’t ready to give the okay in a February meeting when the Trust had vague plans for the site, but was swayed by the more specific plan presented on 5/1, which includes the renovation of three residences behind the building.
