On 5/14 the Santa Barbara County fire department officially declared the beginning of fire season on the Central Coast. Department spokesperson Capt. Eli Iskow noted in a statement released Monday that county firefighters have responded to nine fires in ten days. By drawing attention to the early start of the season, officials hope to increase public awareness and compliance with fire safety laws.
