City Council to Expand Goleta’s Sphere of Influence

On 6/18 the Goleta City Council opposed a plan by residents of the eastern Goleta Valley who want to be adopted into the City of Santa Barbara’s “sphere of influence” – a precursor to potentially becoming part of the city of Santa Barbara. Goleta councilmembers endorsed a counterproposal that calls for Goleta to expand its sphere of influence from Maria Ygnacio Creek on the east to Sarren Road on the west, also taking in Goleta Beach and agricultural lands south of Patterson Avenue.
