A high-speed chase that began on Santa Barbara’s stretch of northbound Highway 101 ended along Highway 154 in a fiery crash on 7/19. The driver, Ventura resident Sara Cornejo, was unscathed, while CHP officer Brian Barriga injured his ankle removing Cornejo from her burning 1995 Nissan 240 coupe. After placing Cornejo in custody, authorities found she was considered potentially suicidal. She was taken to Santa Barbara County Alcohol, Drug & Mental Health Services for evaluation and treatment.
