More than 225,000 acres have burned since the Zaca Fire started on 7/4, making it the second-longest burning and third-biggest fire in the history of California. It is the largest fire in the history of Santa Barbara County. With more than 3,000 fire personnel working to contain it, the cost to date of fighting the fire has reached nearly $90 million. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency for both Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
