Carbon/Silicon

Guitar hero and ex-Clash-man Mick Jones, plus ex-Generation X-er Tony James, helm Carbon/Siliconwhich, although not the second coming of The Clash, is an incendiary, hook-happy, garage-rocky, quasi party music band. Jones’s production duties for The Libertines and Babyshambles have re-sparked his D.I.Y. punk rock roots, as C/S is grittier than past incarnations of Big Audio Dynamite. The songs also speak to the political moment; especially “The Whole Truth”which nicks The Kink’s classic “You Really Got Me” bass line. “War on Culture” and “Why Do Men Fight?” also take sonic flight, but perhaps “Oilwell” digs the deepest, getting to the heart of the matter with its lyrics: “We’re trying to make a humanitarian case / For dropping some love on the human race.” Are you listening, Bush and Cheney?
