A group led by UCSB physicist Mark Sherwin combined the talents of scientists from UCSB and Florida State University to better understand how proteins work in life processes. Sherwin said that it is possible to see protein reactions using a laser which operates in the segment of the electromagnetic spectrum between 0.1 and 10 terahertz. The study is funded by a $1.75-million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation.
