Two Arrested Following Jack in the Box Assault
Other Suspects in Feb. 2 Incident Elude Authorities
Police have arrested two known gang members in connection with a February 2 assault at Jack in the Box restaurant at 501 North Milpas Street. According to Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte, the two 19-year-olds were allegedly involved in an attack on a customer to the fast food restaurant at about 1:20 a.m. in which four assailants allegedly struck the victim in the back of the head.
“The victim heard one of the individuals say something to the effect that this was their ‘hood’ to the victim and began to hit him,” Duarte said in a statement. The victim, who Duarte said is not associated with a gang, was able to get to his feet and defend himself against the assailants, who were allegedly drinking beer while they ate at the restaurant. The victim’s friend was also attacked, and told police one of the suspects asked, “Do you have a problem?” The four fled before police arrived.
The victim had about a one-inch cut on his head and his friend also suffered minor abrasions. Detectives investigated the case, and early this morning Youth Services Detectives and members of the Special Enforcement Team served warrants and arrested the two for assault with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.
