California Highway Patrol officers responded to the site of an overturned Subaru WRX on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 today, just north of State Street. One woman – Colleen Egan, 30, presumably the car’s driver – was trapped inside and “only partially responsive,” said a press release from CHP spokesman Officer Daniel Barba. Egan apparently suffered a seizure while driving, causing her car to run into center divide guard rail, careen to the west across all three highway lanes, and then finally overturn, Barba explained. He also noted that the woman was wearing her seatbelt at the time, which he credited with likely saving her life. Egan is currently being treated at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for minor injuries and further observation.

In all, the incident halted southbound 101 traffic for about ten minutes. No other vehicles were involved.
