The Santa Barbara County Trails Council is hosting a major trail design workshop that is focused on issues relating to our local front country trails.

Dates for the get together are Wednesday-Thursday May 14-15. Cost is $50 and this includes a continental breakfast and light lunch. Attendance is limited to 40 participants and preference is being given to staff members from the public agencies. If you would like to attend, please email Chris Orr at chris.orr@sbmtv.org to register or if you have additional questions.

The workshop will be conducted by Woody Keen of Trail Dynamics, a leading southeastern trail contractor located in North Carolina and will be held at the Los Padres Forest Service headquarters which is located at 6755 Hollister Avenue (just east of the KMart shopping center).

The two-day workshop is open to any community member who wants to learn more about trail design concepts, especially those related to multi-use. Woodie is currently president of the Professional Trail Builders Association and is well known for his expertise in trail design and ability to work with local communities on complex and often controversial trail issues.

Subjects that will be covered include: Trail Feasibility Studies, Trail Master Plans, trail design and layout, trail construction, trail structure design, trail maintenance and re-construction, volunteer crew leadership training and trail education.

For anyone who is interested in local trail issues and wants to understand the underlying concepts behind sustainable trail design, wants to get more involved in local trail issues or is supportive of working together to build a multi-use trail system that works for everyone, this workshop is for you.
