The Santa Barbara Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help with current and future disasters. Those interested in volunteering for the American Red Cross Gap Fire relief effort are being offered free training classes July 8-11 (this Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Volunteers only need to attend one day of class and will learn how to work in a Red Cross emergency shelter, how to assess a disaster, and other skills that would likely prove valuable in an emergency like the Gap Fire. Once volunteers have completed the class, they are eligible to work for the fire relief and also for other Red Cross disaster operations. Classes will be held at 2707 State Street, at the American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter headquarters. For more information, call 687-1331.
