Shortly after the House of Representatives voted in favor of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, Lois Capps and Elton Gallegly, Santa Barbara County’s two congressional reps, released statements explaining their votes. Gallegly voted no, citing his distaste for governmental intervention and the bill’s alleged pork content, while Capps voted yes, citing her overall support of the measure in spite of certain flaws, such as provisions for coal extraction.
