Nationwide electronics retail chain Circuit City announced on 11/4 that diminishing profits have prompted it to close 155 stores across the country, including its Santa Barbara location at 3761 State St. Approximately 17 percent of its employees nationwide will lose their jobs by year’s end. Liquidation of stock at the doomed stores began on 11/5. (/shortcircuit)

Area small-business owners who lost revenue during the Gap Fire may qualify to receive an Economic Injury Disaster Loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). To apply, businesses should submit information to the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Services, and, if qualified, the office will put in a request to the U.S. SBA on their behalf. The deadline to apply, however, is today, 11/6. Call (805) 681-5567 for more information.
