• November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. On Tuesday, November 18, Senior Planning Services is hosting a free memory screening as part of Alzheimer’s Association of America’s National Memory Screening Day, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at their offices (1811 State St.). The screening takes only moments, is free, and can go a long way in setting people’s minds at ease when it comes to Alzheimers. Appointments can be made, but walk-ins are welcome. • Training for those interested in becoming docents at the National Historic Landmark S.B. County Courthouse will begin in early January 2009. The training sessions will be held for approximately 10 weeks. A get-acquainted coffee for prospective members will be held at the courthouse (1100 Anacapa St.), at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20. This is an opportunity to learn about the history and architecture of this special building and to share the information with its many visitors. Call 563-0471 to RSVP.
