Thank you for a well-researched article and please thank Paul for a great photograph [“Goleta’s Political Pruning,” 1/18/08, independent.com/knightresignation].

I have one clarification. There is an implication in the article that I promoted GVB services while discussing projects during Planning Commission meetings. While I always promote trees, I did not promote GVB services during Planning Commission meetings. Topics of trees and landscaping issues that are the applicant’s responsibility are part of a review process, but they are not related to Goleta Valley Beautiful.

Also please note that while Bob Wignot, and many people, attribute the median landscaping in Goleta to GVB, the primary work was done by the Goleta Median Landscaping Corporation, a now defunct nonprofit that did the work in the 1990s. While Goleta Valley Beautiful is involved in infill planting projects along the medians, the primary responsibility for median maintenance is through contractors and staff of the City of Goleta and Santa Barbara County. – Ken Knight, executive director, Goleta Valley Beautiful
