Ride 4 Rwanda
Imagine a world where two wheels are more common than four, where the bicycle has become much more than an expensive toy. This is Rwanda, where in a country recovering from the worst mass genocide in history, the bicycle has become a crucial tool for survival. This Saturday, January 24, from 9 a.m.-noon, you can help: Go on a leisurely bike ride to help support Project Rwanda, which donates bicycles to coffee farmers in an effort to aid post-genocide recovery.
• Bring your bike to Goleta Beach Park (Hwy. 217 at Sandspit Rd.) to meet up with Project Rwanda organizers and other participants.
• The terrain will be relatively flat and smooth, so the whole family, including kids, is welcome to ride.
• The money raised for donated bikes from the riding fees will allow farmers to carry more coffee beans and make the trip to the washing stations faster, resulting in increased profits.
Organizers for the third annual Ride 4 Rwanda are asking for a $25 donation per rider for the bike ride. Call 284-7558 for more info.
