Wine Futures Still in the Future
Winehound to Take Over Where Wine Cask Left Off
One of the saddest parts of the demise of the Wine Cask was the thought that the long-running Santa Barbara County Wine Futures Tasting would be lost. The program has been a wonderful resource for oenophiles hoping to get a leg up on the latest vintages, not to mention a chance to purchase wine, at a discount, before the general public had a shot at it – something very important when it comes to the delicious product from some low-yield vines.
The good news is that Bob Wesley at the Winehound has stepped up to take over. So there will be futures after all, on Saturday, May 9, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the S.B. Museum of Natural History’s Fleischmann Auditorium. Expect about 30 wineries each pouring three wines; that’s a bit smaller than what Futures fans have come to expect, but all the big names will be represented, including Au Bon Climat, Beckmen, Foxen, Hitching Post, Jaffurs, Ojai, Palmina, Qupe, and Stolpman. Food will be provided by Metropulos, so you know you’ll get good eats to match with those tastes.
