KJEE Morning Host Goes on TV

Anyone who might have thought that you can’t make a career out of being ridiculous should consider KJEE’s Adam Lundquist. The morning show co-host, a sports specialist known for outrageous comments and humorous tangents, gained some degree of fame last year when his interview with Los Angeles Clippers player Sam Cassell was one of YouTube’s most-viewed videos for a few days.

Shot while the Clippers were in training camp in Santa Barbara, Lundquist cut right to the chase, asking the NBA star what he thought when people called him ugly, and if he thought he more resembled E.T or the Lord of the Rings character Gollum. Lundquist also whimsically introduced Cassell as a player for the Los Angeles Lakers; the Clippers’ rival team. The video managed to catch the attention of Sports Illustrated, claiming their “Video of the Day” slot, as well as receiving air time in Lundquist’s hometown with Boston radio show hosts Toucher and Rich.

Not to be done away with, the Cassell interview has been resurrected, this time to be aired at 11 p.m. tonight on the nationally televised Best Damn Sports Show on Fox. Hosted by former Lakers’ player John Salley, the episode in which Lundquist’s clip is featured is titled “Top 50 Acts of Awesomeness.” “He said it was one of the most ridiculous things he had ever seen,” said Lundquist, who, when someone from the show called to ask him about the interview, wondered doubtfully if they were the real McCoy. “I’m really stoked. I’ve always been a big fan of this show.”

Lundquist, who claims to loathe “puff” interviews, likes to get down and dirty, often asking questions that people consider obnoxious. For example, last year after Lakers player Lamar Odom was suspended for using marijuana, Lundquist asked him what it was about basketball that made him want to smoke weed. His cheeky interviews are not limited to the sports arena, however, as he also asked presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich if he was tall enough to run for president while Kucinich was campaigning in Santa Barbara. “My English teacher used to tell me my jerk-like comments would never get me anywhere, and here I am,” he said.

The comical radio personality is no stranger to television, having appeared twice on the MTV dating show Next. “The only times I’ve been on TV were on Next, and I got ‘nexted,'” said Lundquist. “I guess I’m making a career out of being ridiculous.”
