Less than a year after The Independent ran a cover story detailing the plight of taxi cab drivers in downtown Santa Barbara, the cabbies, cops, and City Hall have worked out a plan to add about 10 new taxi stands, or legal parking zones, on or near the 400, 500, and 600 blocks of State Street. Said Sgt. Riley Harwood, who pushed for the new zones, “Hopefully, that will make things a little easier for the cabbies to pick up and drop off their fares. Of course, it certainly won’t be a cure-all kind of solution.”
