New Goleta Tax

I just received a letter from the City of Goleta mandating that, as of January 2010, all companies doing business within the City of Goleta will be required to obtain a City of Goleta Business License ($100). I’m not sure that the current economic climate warrants this type of “taxation,” especially since many businesses obtain licenses and pay a fee via the California Department of Corporations.

I realize this is “small potatoes,” but is this an item worth pursuing and publicizing or is it a non-issue for a news service such as The Independent?-Gerald S. Svedlow
