Assemblymember Bill Monning (D-Santa Cruz), at the urging of California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, introduced legislation last week that would potentially force California to prohibit non-biodegradable toxic chemicals in the toilets or holding tanks of boats and recreational vehicles. AB 1824 would ban the use of bronopol, Dowicil, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, paraformaldehyde, and para-dichlorobenzene, all of which have reportedly been proven to damage septic systems and endanger groundwater supplies. A number of local RV parks and campground representatives, however, were unaware of the pending legislation as of press time.
