Police Union Suggests Control Shift

Sgt. Mike McGrew of the Police Officer’s Association announced this week that his union would spearhead an initiative drive to bring the police and fire chiefs under direct control of the City Council rather than the City Administrator Jim Armstrong, to whom they most directly answer right now. Armstrong has declined to comment on this announcement, but Police Chief Cam Sanchez said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea. Right now I report to one boss. I don’t know if I have enough time to report to seven. And realistically, I don’t know if they’d have enough time to supervise me.”
