Sandwiches and Seinfeld Get Served Up at This New York-Style Deli
Where: 5 West Canon Perdido Street, 965-7500, bittermans.com.
What: Serving sandwiches and Seinfeld-isms in a New York-style space, small square footage and all.
How Much: Sandwiches $5.60-$7.90.
The Dish: Junior Mints, Pez dispensers, and “man hands” usher in a nostalgic glimpse of past sitcom laughs for Seinfeld fans. Bitterman’s Deli, which follows a Seinfeld theme, is about entertainment as much as it is about quality New York deli fare. Reruns of the 1990s sitcom cycle through the deli’s television for diners to catch moments of arguably the best and most watched sitcom of all time over a Reuben. Each character is represented on the menu, from Jerry to Newman. Try The Jerry, a triple layer turkey and ham club. The Kramer gets you a gigantic all-beef Hebrew National hotdog on a French roll. The George (pronounced with a jarring New York accent) is smoked ham and Swiss on a Kaiser roll. The Elaine’s sourdough toast is filled with dolphin-safe albacore and melted cheddar. A favorite to order from the counter is the Hello… Newman, a heaping hot pastrami and corned beef sandwich on rye with homemade Russian dressing. Not a fan of the show about nothing? There are more than 30 sandwiches to choose from on the menu … yada yada, Junior Mint, please?
