Rock Slide Repair on 101 at Gaviota Tunnel
Caltrans Project to Reduce Falling Rocks August 31
Caltrans will continue the next phase of a project to reduce the amount of rocks falling onto Hwy. 101 at the Gaviota Tunnel on Tuesday, August 31.
Motorists can expect full closures of Hwy. 101 in both directions north and south of the Gaviota Tunnel. These five minute closures will occur every 15 to 20 minutes between 9:00am and 2pm to allow a helicopter to lift fencing and mesh to the top of the hilltop.
The contractor for this $700,000 project is AIS Construction of Carpinteria, CA. This project is expected to be completed in early September.
Caltrans reminds motorists that ‘we’re here to get you there.’
