At approximately 6 a.m. this morning, one of two 15-year-old males who were crossing Highway 101 (north of Castillo Street) was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder traveling southbound in the middle lane at about 65 mph.

After being propelled approximately 150 feet, according to a CHP spokesperson, the young man sustained major life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Cottage Hospital for treatment.

The 34-year-old male driving the SUV did not sustain any injuries. Why the juveniles were crossing the 101 remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the collision.
