Density’s the Rub

As Nick Welsh points out in his most recent Angry Poodle column, density is the “rub” when it comes to the spit generated over the general plan.

But in considering density, we are considering our future. If you think that global warming and peak oil are fantasy, you may want to keep suburbia as we know it and carry on as in the past, as those opposing high-density housing in the downtown and along the Metropolitan Transit District corridors propose.

If, on the other hand, you concur with most of Earth’s scientists that we are nearing the end of cheap oil and that the use of it is changing our climate, threatening us with future fuel shortages and climate chaos, you may join with those who favor high-density housing. Placing housing strategically along the MTD transportation corridor and in the areas where people work and shop would save land in our watershed to grow local food and fuel to power our future.
