In honor of California Native Plant Week, Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider will present an official Proclamation to the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden (SBBG) declaring the week of April 17th – 23rd as “California Native Plant Week” in the City of Santa Barbara. This Proclamation will be read and presented to the Garden’s CEO, Steve Windhager and Board Chair, John Wiemann, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor Emeritus of UCSB (retired) during the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held on the Garden’s Redwood Terrace on Tuesday, April 12th at Noon.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition and are grateful for the support of Mayor Schneider and the Santa Barbara City Council,” stated Dr. Windhager. “The Garden has been a leader in the trend towards using native plants as a way to conserve our very limited natural resources, and this public acknowledgement of these efforts goes a long way in making the community aware of the beautiful – and sustainable – options for use in their own gardens.”

Now in its 85th year, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden has formed a partnership with California Native Plant Society (CPNS) to celebrate the California legislature’s announcement that the week of April 17th – 23rd will be recognized as California Native Plant Week. SBBG is dedicated to the conservation, display and cultivation of California’s native plants. As part of the festivities, SBBG has a planned a week-long schedule of special events and activities. Visit www.sbbg.org for a complete listing.
