A mock cemetery of the U.S. Military Teen casualties is planned in Santa Barbara, California on the next 4 Tuesdays in April and May, calling for the immediate end of U.S. war & occupation in Afghanistan & Iraq.

The local Teen “cemetery” will begin @ 10am at Santa Barbara City College on the West Campus lawn across from the campus library overlooking Leadbetter Beach on the Pacific Ocean. The Peace Now! club will have a table next to the VFP table. They will be announcing the film presentation of “Why We Fight” in P.S. 101 @3:45pm on Tuesday, April 19. On subsequent Tuesdays they will be announcing similar film presentations, like “Arlington West” and others.

The Middle Eastern Studies Club will have a table next to the Peace Now! table. They will be displaying a copy of the SBCC Charter for Compassion, for additional signatures and they will be selling appropriate T-Shirts.

These events are sponsored by VFP & partially funded by the Fund For Santa Barbara. A “Cemetery” of the U.S. Military Teen Dead, from the Afghanistan & Iraq conflicts will be set up. Since November, 2010 The Washington Post has reported 375 18 & 19 year old casualties from both conflicts. No casualties from this source have been reported for December, 2010 or January – April, 2011.

The “Tombstones” will be set up & taken down each Tuesday, by volunteers from VFP & the 2 aboved mentioned SBCC Peace & Justice clubs. Staff, students & visitors will be asked by these volunteers to come down on the lawn to place a placard of the color photo & information of a teen casualty on the “Tombstones”.

The Peace Now! students will have their weekly club meeting @ 3pm behind the “cemetery” at the Calden Overlook on the West Campus.

Information & free books, newsletters, DVD’s, buttons & stickers on Peace & the Cost of War will be available, donations will be accepted. Cell phones will be available to make free phone calls to Congress & the President to demand the end of both illegal wars!!

An SBCC form for students TO BE TAKEN OFF THE MILITARY’S RECRUITMENT LIST, in opposition to the Solomon Amendment will be given out. Two petitions are currently circulated @ the “Cemetery”:
