Transcending the Rainbow to Educate and Celebrate the LGBTQ Community
UCSB Pride Week filled with workshops, drag shows, and ceremony
The University of California at Santa Barbara is excited to present its annual UCSB PRIDE week filled with intriguing workshops, fabulous drag shows and stunning ceremonies. This student-initiated week of events is FREE and open to students, the surrounding communities and tri-county area.
Opening Ceremony, featuring writer, activist and musician Ryka Aoki will take place Monday, April 24th at noon at Storke Plaza at UCSB. The Intro to Intersexuality workshop will be at 5:30pm at the UCSB Women’s Center (first floor of the Student Resource Building).
Tuesday, April 25th will see a presentation concerning Sexual Assault in the LGBTQ Community at 11am at the UCSB Women’s Center and a workshop on Hetero-flexibility at 5pm also at the UCSB Women’s Center.
The much anticipated Professional Drag Show will take place Wednesday, April 26th at 8pm at Isla Vista Theater. This event will feature mistress of ceremony, Pollo Del Mar the Queen of Media in San Francisco as well as contestants from LOGO’s RuPaul’s Drag Show Ongina, Sonique, Morgan McMichaels and Miss Tammie Brown.
Thursday, April 27th the Kink, Race & Class Workshop will be held form 5 to 6:30pm at the UCSB Women’s Center. That’s So Gay: The Impact of Microagressions will be held at 6pm at the MultiCultural Center Theater on campus. The highly popular Student Run Drag Show will occur from 8 to 9:30 pm at the Corwin Pavilion at UCSB.
Friday, April 28th will see the largely attended Queer Wedding at noon at Storke Plaza. In the evening the Queer Alumni Dinner will take place at 6:30pm at the Mosher Alumni House. The Introduction to Kink Workshop will occur at 7pm at the MultiCultural Center and the LGBTQIA Reception will be held at Beachside Café on Goleta Beach at 9pm.
Sunday, May 1st will see the 2nd annual Isla Vista Pride. Taking place on Pardall Road, I.V. Pride promises to be an exciting event filled with performers (featuring Big Freedia), tabling LGBTQIA organizations and a colorful overspill of UCSB Pride into UCSB’s neighboring community.
Sponsors include UCSB Associated Students Queer Commission, A.S. Finance Board UCSB Residence Hall Association and the UCSB Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.
