Little Leaguers Hold Benefit Car Wash for Beating Victim

The Dos Pueblos and Goleta Valley South Little league players are working around their regularly scheduled baseball games this Saturday, washing cars as part of a benefit fundraiser for Brian Stow, the man severely beaten at the Dodgers’s opening game against the San Francisco Giants.

Stow was beaten because he wore a Giants jersey; he was in a medically induced coma until this past Tuesday. The players will be washing cars — $10 a pop — at the Glen Annie Mobile gas station and at the Living Faith Center at 4597 Hollister Avenue.

Barbara Marlett, a Dos Pueblos Little League board member, said she wants to show kids that it’s important to be safe at baseball games and that people have no right to abuse fans of the opposing team, verbally or physically.

Marlett has two children, one of whom is old enough to play baseball. She said she hopes that people who want to support Brian Stow come out to have their cars washed.

The fundraisers will run from 9 a.m. to 4 pm.
