Started nearly 50 million years ago, the stone then used for the 1927 commissioning of the Spirit of the Ocean Fountain, adorning the entry façade of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, will finally rest, protected from the elements, in the basement of the 80-year-old courthouse. At approximately 9 AM, Wednesday May 4th, the “People Block” (the upper torso of male and female) will be lifted from its perch and stored for a future exhibit. The preparation for the replacement fountain is being donated by several building industry locals. Melchiori Construction Company will be coordinating the great lift with assistance from Ed Lenvik, Specialty Crane & Rigging; all spear headed by the Santa Barbara County Architect and Founding Trustee of the Courthouse Legacy Foundation Robert Ooley.

The Santa Barbara Courthouse is a City, State and National Historic Landmark and is being systematically restored by the Courthouse Legacy Foundation. If you would like to support their work, please visit their website at www.sbclf.org
