Drawing upon experts’ analyses of the inherent high risks of commercial nuclear plants, Protest Diablo portends core meltdowns, such as Fukushima and Chernobyl, The author aims to revitalize collective citizen action to eliminate the shadow in our midst, the Diablo Nuclear Power Plant.
Characterizing the plant as a “dangerous, dilapidated atomic reactor”, Dr. Helen Caldicott an international nuclear authority, further states in her foreword of Protest Diablo that nuclear power isn’t green, clean or cheap. It also contributes to global warming, contrary to the widespread propaganda of the pro global nuclear industry media.
In her book Judith shares valuable strategies and tactics on civil disobedience and unified non-violent direct action. She and thousands of other empowered citizens staged the historic Diablo Protests between 1978 and 1984. Her memoir reveals a personal tragedy caused by radiation from the 1957 Windscale accident in England.
