State Street Stabbing Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
Will Remain in Custody on $1 Million Bail
Ryan Christopher Zietlow-Brown pleaded not guilty today to the felony charges filed against him. Exactly a week ago, on August 12, Zietlow-Brown allegedly stabbed an African-American man in the head with a pair of scissors and has since been charged with aggravated mayhem with a special allegation of a hate crime, as well as assault with the use of a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury.
Defense attorney Jeff Chambliss waived time and asked for a preliminary hearing setting on September 15, which the court granted.
Ali Neuffer, deputy district attorney, was not surprised with the outcome of the arraignment and called it “fairly standard.” Neuffer will continue to review the evidence against Zietlow-Brown until the preliminary setting. It’s “too soon to tell” whether the case will go to trial, she said.
Zietlow-Brown will remain in custody on $1 million bail.
