Deputies Seize Stash of Guns and Ammo

After responding to a call of reported gun shots, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s deputies seized a number of weapons from a Carpinteria man.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, said Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars, deputies drove to the 4400 block of La Tierra Lane and discovered through their investigation that the gunfire had come from behind a residence on the 1400 block of La Jolla Place.

There was a similar “shots fired” incident on April 21, said Sugars. Based on this and the most recent calls, authorities obtained a search warrant for the house. During a search the next day, deputies found an AK-47 rifle, SKS rifle, unregistered handgun, one fully loaded drum magazine, banana clips, loose ammunition, and practice grenades.

All the weapons and ammo reportedly belonged to 36-year-old Ian McDonald who lives at the house. “Due to his cooperation in the investigation and his current medical condition,” said Sugars, “McDonald was not arrested. However, a report was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office with the request to file the following charges: malicious and willful discharge of a firearm, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of armor piercing ammunition.”
