The Dow Chemical Company pledged UCSB five years of funding to found a collaborative research institute (called the Dow Materials Institute) on campus. Depending on the projects pursued — which can include designing anything from drug-delivery systems to microelectronics — the award could amount to $15 million. The institute will be housed in UCSB’s highly regarded Materials Research Laboratory. As part of the award, Dow will earmark $2 million for an endowment to support students with fellowships.
